2 c All purpose flour

1 c Whole wheat flour

1 1/2 c Sugar; divided

4 ts Baking powder

1 ts Salt

1 ts Nutmeg

2/3 c Shortening

1/2 c Milk

2 Eggs; beaten

2 c Apples; finely chopped

1/2 c Butter or margarine; melted

1 1/2 ts Cinnamon

Combine flours, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Combine milk and eggs; gradually add to dry ingredients. Fold in apples. Fill greased muffins tins 2/3 full with batter. Bake at 350 for 20 to 25 minutes. Combine remaining

1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. While cakes are warm, dip tops in melted

butter, then in cinnamon sugar. Best when served warm. —–
