Mrs. dewitt gadberry Best of show 16 tb Butter or margarine

1/2 c Shortening

3 c Sugar

1/2 ts Baking powder

1/4 ts Cloves

1 ts Vanilla

6 lg Eggs

3 c Flour; unsifted

1/2 ts Salt

1/2 ts Allspice

1/2 ts Nutmeg

1 c Apple cider

1/4 ts Cinnamon

—–caramel glaze—– 1/2 c Sugar

1/4 ts Soda

1/4 c Margarine

1/4 c Buttermilk

1/2 tb Corn syrup

1/4 ts Vanilla

Soften margarine and shortening. Add sugar gradually, beating for 1- minutes. Add egg one at a time, beating 1 1/2 minutes after each egg. Sift together all the dry ingredients and add alternately with the cider and vanilla to the shortening mixture. Blend well and bake in a 10″ tube pan at 235~F for 1 1/2 hours.

CARAMEL GLAZE: Bring ingredients to a rolling boil over low heat and boil for 10 minutes, stirring occasionaly. Margaret Garland DFYX18A Source: Prize Winning Recipes from the State Fair of Texas, 1976. —–
